Mom’s Chili


1.5- 2 lbs ground beef

1 medium onion, diced

1 medium green bell pepper, diced

1 large can whole tomatoes

(Or a can of diced tomatoes)

1/2 can tomato sauce

2-3 cans red beans

2 cloves garlic, diced

2-5 tbsp chili powder, depending on taste

Salt and pepper

1-2 tsp of cumin

Splash of Worcestershire sauce

1-2 tsp of oregano 

1-2 tbs white sugar

1/2 cup water

In your pot, add hamburger, onion, bell pepper, salt and pepper and garlic and brown. Cut up your whole tomatoes and add to pot with juices. Add the 1/2 can of tomato sauce and 1/2 cup water. Add the Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, oregano and cumin and simmer on medium heat for about 30 minutes. Then add cans of beans with liquid. If you need more liquid you can add water. Bring to boil. add the sugar and simmer another 30 minutes. You may need to add a little more seasonings before serving. 

Serves about 5-6 people.

Top with sour cream, cheese and green onions!! 

Goes great with cornbread!
